Islam and Religious Freedom in America

Below is an interesting blog post on Islam and building of a mosque near the World Trade Center at Alas, a blog:

For all our nation’s many faults, there is one thing that our country got inarguably right, and that is freedom of religion. From the founding of the republic, religious tests for office have been banned, religious freedoms supported. The right to worship as one pleases, free from government coercion, is one of the cornerstone liberties of our nation, one equal to the freedom to speak and write as one pleases. By allowing all Americans to seek out God (or not) in the manner of their choosing, the Constitution has recognized that the freedom to profess one’s faith is, at its heart, one of the most important freedoms one can exercise.

New Dreams

My dreams have changed the last couple of weeks.  They seemed to be focusing on more pragmatic approaches to my life in the near future.

Zen Buddhism

Zen Buddhism and Sufism have many similarities.  Some can argue that Buddhism greatly influenced the Sufis of Central Asia.  Here are two good videos looking at Zen Buddhism:

What this about July 11, 2010?

An interesting set of videos predicting that there will be an economic collapse in 2010, start of World War III due to events in Israel around July 11, 2010, and mass evacuations in the Gulf region of the US also during the summer 2010.  It does have a Christian bias but still interesting…

How China taught Islam to an American Blogger in Xinjiang

The Far West China blog gave a pretty good point of view of his experiences with Muslims in China looking at four different misconceptions:

  1. Islam is a Religion
  2. Islam oppresses Women
  3. Muslims are Arabs with Turbans
  4. If a Muslim kills, it is part of a “jihad”

I am quite impressed with his point of view.  I am also envious that he gets to live in this part of the world.
