Finding halal restaurants in Vietnam used to be a daunting task for Muslims. Nowadays, it is easier to find halal restaurants many based on Cham, Indian and Malaysian cuisines. Be forewarned, there are restaurants in Vietnam that say they are halal but it is best to ask the owner and/or cook. Halal certificates authorized by Vietnamese authorities DOES NOT necessarily mean the restaurant serves halal food.
Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)
Akbar Ali
240, Bui Vien Street, District 1, Saigon
Note: The cook is Muslim, popular with the Arab visitors to Saigon.
Alibaba
43 Mac Thi Buoi, District 1, Saigon
Note: The cook is Muslim. One of the most expensive halal restaurants in Saigon.
Bombay Restaurant
59 Dong Du, District 1, Saigon
Note: This restaurant may be ‘halal-certified’ but rumors state that it may not be a halal. There was a Muslim cook 25 years ago but now the restaurant is fully owned by a Vietnamese family, there are no Muslims working in the restaurant. Halal@Saigon is nearby and there is also a small halal restaurant (66 Dong Du) across the street at the masjid (mosque).
