Call to Prayer

Sometimes Islam can surprise you.  I think many Muslims, especially those born to Islam, take their own religion for granted.  I do not consider myself a devout Muslim but on certain days, especially those I feel a bit down, some parts of Islam can warm my heart.

Today while I was eating at a halal restaurant, I started to hear the Azan (Call to Prayer).  That surprised me since I never once heard it in Vietnam.  The waiters told me that they have a mosque (masjid) upstairs with a muezzin.  This guy was good.

I think in the future, I may join these Muslims for a prayer.

A Dream in Vietnam

This may sound strange to many people but I actually keep a journal for my dreams.  I like to refer back to them occasionally just for curiosity.  Back in July 22, 2007, I wrote the following dream in my journal:

I was heading to my parent’s home somewhere near the mountains.  I was not sure if I was in Vietnam or the US.  I then heard the “Call to Prayer.”  I was following a mountain trial on my motorbike.  I saw a stream and the path then became inclined.  I remember being scared but then another Vietnamese passed another way over a creek.  Another Vietnamese man then helped me walk my motorbike across the creek.

I finally head to a church and heard the “Call to Prayer” again.  I am now in the church and see a Muslim woman praying.  It was strange.  I had thought that it was weird that Muslims would be allowed to pray in this town.

I then woke up.

I remember thinking this dream was odd since I had stop praying for over three years at the time.  I was not even sure if I would ever pray again.  I still have not tried to interpret this dream yet.  Maybe some of you will for me.

All interpretations are welcome…
