Nine Nursi followers jailed in Tashkent Region – Uznews.net

Uznews.net – The Tashkent Region criminal code jailed nine graduates of the Turkish lyceum in Angren for membership of the banned Nurchilar (followers of Nursi Said) religious organisation.

Three Nursi followers – Jasur Hasanov, Farhod Hasanov and Dilmurod Rahmatov – were sentenced to five years in prison under Item 2 of Article 244 of the Criminal Code “creating, leading and participating in religious extremist, separatist, fundamentalist and other banned organisations”.

A further six followers – Tohir Vakkasov, Oybek Latypov, Sherzod Haytboyev, Jamshid Jabborov, Jahongir Tillayev and Asilhuja Turayev – were found guilty under Article 216 of the Criminal Code “illegal establishment of public and religious organisations”.

They were fined 70 minimum monthly wages (3.2 million sums or about $1,450) each.

Surat Ikramov, the head of the Initiative Group of Independent Human Rights Activists of Uzbekistan who observed the trial, said that the men had been jailed even though their guilt was not proven.

Nursi followers were subject to constant psychological pressure during the investigation, their lawyers said.

Fetullah Gulen speaks out against Gaza Flotilla

This may come to a surprise for many supporters of Fetullah Gulen and his movement around the world but I am not.  He spoke out against those who organized the Gaza Flotilla that left at least 10 dead when Israeli soldiers stormed the ships that were to provide charity to Gaza.

Speaking in his first interview with a U.S. news organization, Mr. Gülen spoke of watching news coverage of Monday’s deadly confrontation between Israeli commandos and Turkish aid group members as its flotilla approached Israel’s sea blockade of Gaza. “What I saw was not pretty,” he said. “It was ugly.” (Source: Wall Street Journal)

I agree with Mr. Gulen, there are peaceful ways to get charity aid to the Palestinians.  Though there is a tendency for Muslims to demonize all Israelis as Zionists, the fact is far from the truth.  The Turkish charity group, IHH, involved in organizing the flotilla should have received permission from the Israeli government.  Instead, they seemed more interested in garnering media attention for themselves which overshadowed the real purpose of this charity trip.

While the Israel insists the aid from the flotilla will make it to the Palestinians, IHH and the Turkish government seemed more occupied at pointing fingers and making accusations against Israel then trying to make sure that the aid WILL reach the Palestinians.

We all should really look at the true intentions for the Gaza flotilla before making any opinions such as Fetullah Gulen has clearly done for us.
